Bioinformatics is an integration of various subjects, it poised to be one of the most prodigious growth areas in the next decades. Recently, the bioinformatics market has significantly evolved across the globe on back of rising genomics industry. It become the liveliest markets in the present scenario and is at the forefront of biotech revolution. In addition, the increasing application of genomics in biotech and pharmaceutical research & development has created a huge commercial market for bioinformatics worldwide. Gobally, the bioinformatics market reached the mark of around US$ 3.2 Billion in 2012. In future, the bioinformatics market will expand at a CAGR of around 18.5% during 2013-2017 as the declining cost of human genome sequencing and increasing public & private sector investment will give a significant boost to the industry. The industry is expected to grow exponentially over the next 10 years stretching the very boundaries of biotechnology transforming an essentially lab-based science into an information science yielding rare biological insights and hastening the discovery of new drugs.

This in turn will create a corresponding boom in job opportunities. Therefore, it is safe to assume bioinformatician have bright future.

Bioinformatics is melting pot of life science, physical science and computer science. Before coming to this field, i suggest have a degree in basic science like biotech, genetics, computer science, maths, physics, etc then jump to bioinformatics which give advantage to your career. Most of the todays lab demand such combination. Bioinformatics alone could be not much fruitful in present scenario.

Representing a marriage of IT and biotechnology, bioinformatics is poised to be one of the most prodigious growth areas in the next two decades. Currently valued at around $ 1 billion, the industry is expected to grow exponentially over the next 10 years stretching the very boundaries of biotechnology transforming an essentially lab-based science into an information science yielding rare biological insights and hastening the discovery of new drugs.Globally, the biotech computing sector is estimated to touch a whopping $30 billion by 2003 and $ 60 billion in 2005. This in turn will create a corresponding boom in job opportunities.
