Ruby is a dynamic, reflective, general-purpose object-oriented programming language that combines syntax inspired by Perl with Smalltalk-like features. It was also influenced by Eiffel and Lisp. Ruby was first designed and developed in the mid-1990s by Yukihiro "Matz" Matsumoto in Japan.
BioRuby is a package of Open Source Ruby code, with classes for DNA and protein sequence analysis, alignment, database parsing, tools for structural biology, and other Bioinformatics. BioRuby is one of a number of Bio* projects designed to reduce code duplication. In 2011 the BioRuby project introduced the biogem software plugin system. Biogems are listed on biogems.info, with 2-3 new plugins being added every month.

Started by Jitendra Narayan 3908 days agoI found several angry bioinformatician writting a lot of criticism on Ruby and BioRuby. They also did comparative analysis with several other languages. What do you think about this...What are the difference between BioRuby and BioGem?
Started by Neelam Jha 3909 days agoI came across two diferent but matching term BioRuby and BioGem. What are the difference between these two term? If both are using same Ruby language for development then why did they develope two different biological packages.
