We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientist – Bioinformatician with experience in managing cancer genetics projects that incorporate large genome-wide datasets. As a postdoctoral research scientist you will have a strong mathematics (ideally statistics) background and familiar with analysing and modelling big-data. Fluency in at least one low level programming language, common scripting language and experience with cluster-computing environments are also expected.
You will be educated to PhD level (or equivalent) in Computer Science with the ability to use UNIX based systems (Linux/OSX/BSD) from the command line. Proven statistical skills, especially in the context of hypothesis testing would be essential.
You will have the opportunity as a postdoctoral research scientist to work on an exciting project that explores the possibility that polymorphic binding sites for various transcription factors could underlie differences in cancer susceptibility. This project will require close collaboration with bench scientists, clinicians and other groups within the institute and at other universities. For this reason, excellent communication and inter-personal skills are essential, along with an excellent track record for publishing and presenting scientific discoveries.
As part of the project we also aim to develop publicly accessible resources. An understanding of web technology, in particular client and server-side Javascript, are highly desirable qualities.
The post is full-time, fixed-term for 3 years.
You will be required to upload a supporting statement which explains how you meet the selection criteria for the post.
Only applications received before 12.00 noon on 9 November 2015 will be considered.
