  <title><![CDATA[Postdoctoral Scholar in Bacterial Evolution at Pathogen and Microbiome Institute at Northern Arizona University]]></title>

<p>We are pleased to announce a Postdoctoral Scholar position to study<br />bacterial evolution at the Pathogen and Microbiome Institute at<br />Northern Arizona University with Professor Paul Keim. The scholar<br />will have the opportunity also work with Professor Sam Sheppard at<br />The University of Oxford on joint projects. <p>The job description: "This research position focuses on the science<br />of bacterial evolution. It will consist of researching theoretical<br />principles, but could include translational applications. Phylogenomic<br />and bioinformatic analysis of bacterial populations in nature or<br />in laboratory experiments will be a key component of the work. Prior<br />experience is an asset though training will be possible at PMI.<br />Likewise, laboratory microbiological, molecular, and biochemical<br />skills are an asset though not essential. Communication and critical<br />thinking skills are essential for performing the work and for<br />communicating to the local and international scientific communities.<br />Participating in team or independent grant writing to obtain research<br />funding will be required. Student mentoring is a part of the NAU<br />mission and is a partial expectation."</p>

<p>Northern Arizona University is located in Flagstaff, Arizona, a<br />beautiful mountain town with a surprisingly vibrant restaurant<br />scene. Located a little over an hour from the Grand Canyon and ~45<br />min from Sedona, Flagstaff is a hiker's paradise.   <title><![CDATA[Postdoc at UBasel Comparative Single Cell Genomics]]></title>

<p>A fully funded 4-year Postdoc position is available in the lab of Patrick<br />Tschopp at the University of Basel, Switzerland, study the molecular and<br />tissue-scale dynamics during the embryonic formation of the vertebrate<br />skeleton and compare it across different vertebrate species with distinct<br />habitats.</p>

<p>We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a PhD degree in<br />Bioinformatics or a related field. Candidates are expected to have a<br />strong background in evolutionary biology and/or comparative functional<br />genomics. Additional experiences in single cell functional genomics<br />analyses, statistics and computational data analyses are a plus, as is<br />an interest in comparative developmental (EvoDevo) questions.</p>

<p>We offer a dynamic and interactive research environment with state-of-the<br />art research facilities, good research funding and internationally<br />competitive salaries.</p>

  <title><![CDATA[PhD positions on integrative omics and phylogenomics]]></title>

<p>Would you like to participate in an exciting interdisciplinary research project to discover the hidden chemistry of plants and its evolution using computational omics approaches? Do you enjoy collaboration and teamwork while being at the cutting edge of scientific progress? We are looking for two PhD candidates with complementary skills to pioneer new technologies to analyze, explore and leverage the diversity of plant chemistry hidden in plant genomes.</p>

<p>Plants represent an untapped resource of natural bioactive compounds that significantly contribute to plant resilience to pathogens, herbivores, and abiotic stresses, and may be applied for medicine or crop protection. In this project, you will design and/or apply innovative omics integration strategies for genomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics data, to discover plant specialized metabolite biosynthetic pathways and study their evolution. You will work together with the other PhD candidate in this project, which will entail a combination of algorithm development, greenhouse experiments, integrative omics analysis, and evolutionary genomics. Extensive local and international collaboration is foreseen, including possibilities for a foreign research visit as part of your PhD project.</p>

<p>The research is embedded within the chairs of Bioinformatics and Biosystematics. The projects will be (co-)supervised by Dr. Marnix Medema, Dr. Justin van der Hooft, Dr. Klaas Bouwmeester and Prof. Dr. Eric Schranz.</p>

<p>We ask</p>

<p>We are looking for two enthusiastic and complementary team players with all or a subset of the following skills:</p>

<p>a solid academic record (MSc) in bioinformatics, biology, or biotechnology<br />experience in computational omics analysis and proficiency in programming (in, e.g., Python)<br />at least basic to intermediate statistical and mathematical skills<br />demonstrable experience in working with next-generation sequencing data or with greenhouse experiments with plants<br />affinity with plant science, metabolism and/or biosynthetic pathways<br />you meet all the entry requirements of the  WUR PhD programme.<br />More information</p>

  <title><![CDATA[Three-month internship  at the Wellcome Sanger Institute !]]></title>

<p>The winner of the Sanger Institute Prize will be offered a three-month internship with a research group at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. Travel, living and research expenses are all covered by the award.</p>

<p>Eligibility<br />To be eligible to apply for the Sanger Prize applicants must meet all of the criteria below:</p>

<p>Be from a low or middle income country (a full list of eligible countries is available below).<br />Be studying an undergraduate degree relevant to genomics at a University/Institute in a low/middle income country at the time of the first stage application. This could include any biological science degree, bioinformatics or any degree which includes genomics as a large part of the content.<br />Demonstrate an active interest in research in the genomics field<br />Have a good command of English (demonstrated by the clear writing within the application form, no certificate of English is required).<br />Be over 18 at the time of applying<br />Applicants who do not meet all of the above criteria will not be considered for the second stage of the competition.</p>

<p>Please note that no exceptions can be made to the above criteria, we do not offer the prize to any one who is doing any post graduate course, whatever the circumstances may be. </p>
