<p>An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated and enthusiastic bioinformatics researcher to work in the Exosome, Secretome and Systems Biology laboratory of Dr Suresh Mathivanan. This position is funded through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) USA, to study the role of extracellular RNA or ExRNA in intercellular communication.</p>

<p>The successful applicant will be involved in collaborative bioinformatics research with more than 30 American Universities/Institutes.  The ExRNA consortium is a multi-institute USD 17 million funded program which has 5 primary aims: to understand the biogenesis of ExRNA (vesicles and non-vesicles), to explore the use of ExRNA in biomarker research, to establish a reference profile of ExRNA in various disease conditions, to explore the role of ExRNA in therapeutic purposes and to manage the generated data through a reference portal.  The bioinformatics component is critical in managing and analysing the data generated by the entire consortium.  The researcher is required to contribute to the management and perform the analysis of ExRNA data.</p>

<p>The candidate to succeed, you will possess:</p>

<p>Experience in the analysis and modelling of data, including the capacity to integrate data from a range of sources and of uneven quality.</p>

<p>Evidence of experience in research and of the ability to work effectively under limited supervision or independently.</p>

<p>A record of contribution to publications, conference papers and/or reports, or professional or technical contributions which provide evidence of research potential.</p>

<p>Completion of a doctoral degree in bioinformatics or biostatistics with a focus on transcriptomic data will be highly regarded.</p>

<p>Preference will be given to applicants with competence in programming (JavaScript, Perl/Python), any web-based applications (PHP, ZOPE) and relational databases (MySQL).</p>

  <title><![CDATA[Job offer for a postdoctoral researcher in genomics / bioinformatics (2 years)]]></title>

<p>Ongoing research in the group of Karine Van Doninck involves topics at the core of<br />evolutionary biology, including the evolution of sex, genome maintenance,<br />recombination and extreme stress resistance on different eukaryotic systems,<br />including rotifers, amoeba and Corbicula clams. We are employing different tools<br />(including experimental ecology, population genetics, phylogeny, comparative<br />genomics, transcriptomics, bioinformatics, molecular and cellular biology) to study<br />evolutionary processes at the level of populations, both experimental and natural, and<br />genomes.</p>

<p>Offer<br />We offer a full-time contract for two years. The contract starts between October 2021<br />and December 2021. The position involves no or extremely light teaching load, if the<br />candidate is interested. Salaries are competitive at the European level. The recruited<br />person will benefit from the Belgian social insurance scheme (health care, etc.) without<br />additional expenses.</p>

<p>Profile<br />Applicants are expected to show outstanding commitment to research and must have<br />obtained a PhD by the start of the position. A strong expertise in genomics is required.<br />More specifically, solid competences in bioinformatics (e.g. scripting pipelines) and in<br />genome evolution are needed. Knowledge or interest regarding recombination,<br />metazoan evolution, phylogenomics and population genomics is an added-value.</p>

<p>Genome Annotation and Functional Genomics</p>

<p>Bergman Lab is actively engaged in the development and application of computational methods to improve the annotation of functional biological features in genome sequences.  Bergman Lab work focuses on improving annotation of non-protein-coding regions of the genome including conserved noncoding sequences (CNSs), cis-regulatory modules (CRMs), transcription factor binding sites (TFBSs), transposable elements (TEs) and noncoding RNA (ncRNA) genes. Current projects include improving the (i) annotation of TEs in the fly and yeast genomes, (ii) annotation of CRMs and TFBSs in the fly genome, and (iii) analysis of transposon knockout collections in flies. Research in this area is supported by the EC FP7 programme.</p>

The scholar<br />will have the opportunity also work with Professor Sam Sheppard at<br />The University of Oxford on joint projects. <p>The job description: "This research position focuses on the science<br />of bacterial evolution. It will consist of researching theoretical<br />principles, but could include translational applications. Phylogenomic<br />and bioinformatic analysis of bacterial populations in nature or<br />in laboratory experiments will be a key component of the work. Prior<br />experience is an asset though training will be possible at PMI.<br />Likewise, laboratory microbiological, molecular, and biochemical<br />skills are an asset though not essential. Communication and critical<br />thinking skills are essential for performing the work and for<br />communicating to the local and international scientific communities.<br />Participating in team or independent grant writing to obtain research<br />funding will be required.   <title><![CDATA[Postdoctoral Position in Evolutionary Genomics and Bioinformatics, at the Center for Interdisciplinary Neuroscience at University of Valparaiso, Valparaiso, Chile.]]></title>

<p>The Center for Interdisciplinary Neuroscience of Valparaiso (CINV)<br />in Valparaiso, Chile, invites postdoctoral researchers to apply for<br />a Postdoctoral Fellowship focusing on understanding the evolution of<br />genes and molecular pathways that play a role on inflammatory processes<br />driving diseases affecting the central nervous system.</p>

<p>The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to this project using<br />a combination of evolutionary and comparative genomics, as well as a<br />diverse set of bioinformatic approaches for data analysis and integration<br />(e.g., transcriptomics, genomics, phenotypic data). This position offers<br />a unique opportunity to integrate diverse state-of-the-art genomic and<br />phenotypic datasets across different model organisms to understand the<br />role of genes, molecular pathways in the origin of complex diseases.</p>

<p>CINV provides a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary environment<br />using a variety of computational and experimental approaches,<br />including genetically tractable animal models as well as expertise in<br />genetics, behavior, glia-neuron communication, metabolism, biophysics,<br />genomics, bioinformatics, host-microbe communication, and biomolecular<br />modelling. The new postdoc will be part of one of our labs which focuses<br />more generally on the intersection between molecular evolution and<br />disease biology.</p>

<p>Required qualifications are a PhD in evolutionary biology, computational<br />biology, bioinformatics, or closely related fields. Candidates must have<br />excellent verbal and written communication skills (working language<br />is English), as well as an established record of productivity (e.g.,<br />at least one previous peer-reviewed publication). Candidates with a<br />past record of publications in bioinfomatics, computational biology,<br />population genetics or evolutionary genomics are strongly preferred. Ideal<br />candidates should have experience in analyzing genomic and phenomic<br />data, performing comparative evolution or population genomic analyses,<br />as well as in collaborating with experimentalists.</p>
