<p>WALK -IN- TEST CUM INTERVIEW<br />Walk- in- Test cum Interview (based on test) for the selection of Research Associate (Bioinformatics) &amp; Bioinformatic Trainees under the scheme ‘Distributed Information Sub Centre- DISC’ will be held at this Institute as per details indicated below.</p>

<p>Research Associate<br />Date of Interview : 21 -01-2014 at 10.00 A.M<br />Qualifications :<br />a) Essential: Doctorate degree in Bioinformatics or Biotechnology/Life Sciences/Biochemistry with expertise in  Bioinformatics as evidenced by publications.<br />OR Three years research experience after  MVSc/MPharm/ME/MTech with Bioinformatics Specialization.<br />b Desirable: Experience in handling NGS data  Programming skills in Python/Bioperl<br />Emoluments : Rs:22000/- per month + HRA  (higher pay upto Rs.24000/- can be paid depending on the qualifications and experience.<br />Upper age limit : 40 years for Men &amp; 45 years for Women as on date of Interview (Upper Age limits are relaxable for SC, ST and OBC candidates as per Govt. of India norms (at present 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC)<br />Duration of Project : Till the closure of the project.</p>

<p>General Terms and conditions<br />1. The above positions are purely on temporary basis and is co-terminus with the closure of the project. There is no provision of re-employment after termination of project.<br />The selected candidate will not have any right for claiming pay scale or absorption<br />against any regular post being vacant on a later date at this Institute.<br />2 . No TA/DA will be paid for attending the Interview.<br />3. Canvassing in any form will lead to cancellation of candidate.<br />4. The decision of Director, IISR would be final and binding in all aspects.<br />5. Candidates will not be permitted to enter the Examination Hall after 10.00 A.M.<br />6.   <title><![CDATA[Pre- or postdoctoral research fellowship in Structural Bioinformatics in Padova]]></title>

<p>A research fellowship is available at the BioComputing Laboratory, University of Padova (URL: http://protein.bio.unipd.it/). A highly motivated and creative candidate is sought to work on structural bioinformatics. Specifically, the project entails the development of novel methods, tools and databases for the analysis of protein structures. The BioComputing Laboratory is a group of a dozen people working on several aspects of prediction of protein structure &amp; function employing techniques at the intersection between biology, medicine, chemistry, physics &amp; computer science. Our aim is to integrate the development of novel methods and their application to biologically relevant problems. We are looking for candidates with a solid Bioinformatics background, programming experience (Python, Perl, C++ and/or Java) and good knowledge of molecular biology (protein structure/function, signalling pathways). Candidates should have a degree with top marks, optionally hold a PhD, and be highly motivated to work on interdisciplinary research. Good knowledge of English, an open-minded spirit, being collaborative and creative are crucial. The fellowship, which should start in late 2013, is initially for one year. It will be commensurate to experience, can be extended depending on performance and may lead to a PhD degree. The successful candidate will be located at the BioComputing Laboratory, University of Padova. Travel support for conferences and/or research visits abroad may be provided. 	<title><![CDATA[Hidden Markov Models, Viterbi Algorithm, Markov Chain Exploration with script]]></title>
	<description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Hidden Markov Models, the Viterbi Algorithm, and CpG Islands (in VB6)</strong></p><p><strong>Problem :</strong></p><p>The CG island is a stretch of DNA (usually longer than 200 bases) in which the frequency of the CG sequence is higher than other regions. It is also called the CpG island, where "p" simply indicates that "C" and "G" are connected by a phosphodiester bond.<br /><br />CpG islands are often located around the promoters of housekeeping genes (which are essential for general cell functions) or other genes frequently expressed in a cell. At these locations, the CG sequence is not methylated. By contrast, the CG sequences in inactive genes are usually methylated to suppress their expression. The methylated cytosine may be converted to thymine by accidental deamination. Unlike the cytosine to uracil mutation which is efficiently repaired, the cytosine to thymine mutation can be corrected only by the mismatch repair which is very inefficient. 	<title><![CDATA[C-DAC launch supercomputing facility "Param Bio Blaze" !!!]]></title>
	<description><![CDATA[<p>The bioinformatics centre at Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) completed 10 years, this month. Established in 2004, the centre has been widely used by numerous researchers across the globe and has an ultimate aim of making personalised drugs depending on the composition of a human body.<br /><br />When biological data is processed using computer science, statistics, mathematics and engineering, it constitutes bioinformatics. The technological advancements are bringing new dimensions to the understanding of molecular basis of living organisms. There is immense data generated due to computing, but storage and analysis of this data is becoming a challenge, therefore there is an urgent need of supercomputers.</p><p>The&nbsp;C-DAC will launch Param Bio Blaze, a supercomputing facility, to address the challenges in bioinformatics on Tuesday at a three-day symposium, titled: 'Accelerating biology: Computing life'. The supercomputing facility will be inaugurated on Tuesday by Ramakrishna Ramaswamy, vice-chancellor, Central University of Hyderabad at the Yashada. The new C-DAC's facility will have a capacity of 10 teraflop and will be able to analyse human cells and its functions.</p><p><img src="http://www.datacenterjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/supercomputer.jpg" alt="image" width="1024" height="632" style="border: 0px; border: 0px;"></p><p><br />Param Bio Blaze will help have a larger storage space and better computing facility for the bioinformatics sector.
