Applications are invited from suitable candidates for one position of Junior Research Fellow in a DST funded bioinformatics research project entitled "Major gene influxes in microbial genome evolution" in the Laboratory of Dr. Shijulal Nelson-Sathi at Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, Thiruvananthapuram.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
We are looking for a motivated candidate with keen interest in bioinformatics and microbial genome evolution. The candidate must have a Master’s Degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Microbiology, Biology or a related field with good academic record.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Hands on research experience on handling next generation sequencing data and phylogenetic reconstruction methods. Excellent programming skills (Perl/Python/Java/Php) and experience in working on Unix/Linux platform is preferred. Furthermore; good knowledge is required in statistics (R/Matlab) and the application of bioinformatics analysis tools.

AGE:
Below 28 years as on 15th November, 2016.

EMOLUMENTS:
Rs. 25,000 + 20% HRA for NET/GATE qualified and Post Graduate in Professional Degree course qualified candidates and
Rs. 12,000/- + 20% HRA for others.

DURATION:
Initial appointment will be given for one year and further extension will be based on the performance till termination of the project.
Only those fulfilling the above criteria need apply and will be called for interview. In the event of more than 10 candidates being short-listed by screening the applications, a written test will be conducted before the selection interview and only those who are successful in the written test will be interviewed. A walk-in-interview will be held on 09 March, 2017, 11.15 a.m. at the office of the Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Tezpur University for one (01) temporary position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in the DBT, Govt. of India sponsored project entitled “Integrating genome scale metabolic analysis of model plant pathogen Ralstonia solanacearum with RNAseq and fluxomics” under Dr. Siddhartha Sankar Satapathy (ssankar@tezu.ernet.in), Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Tezpur University.

Interested candidates may appear before the interview board with original documents from 10th standard onwards and photocopies of mark sheets, certificates, testimonials, caste certificate (if applicable), experience certificate certificates of NET/GATE/BET or similar examination qualifications, any other testimonials and a copy of recent curriculum vitae (CV) on the day of interview.

Essential qualification: M.Tech. in CSE/IT (With specialization in Computational Biology/Bioinformatics) or M.Sc. in Bioinformatics/Biosciences/Molecular Biology Biotechnology preferably with NET/GATE/BET.

Candidates should have minimum 55 % mark both in 10th and 10+2 Science examinations and mathematics at 10+2 Science.

Desirable: Preference will be given to the candidates having experience in computational analysis of genome sequences or similar projects.

Remuneration: Rs. 25,000/- (Rupees twenty five thousand) only + HRA as admissible per month for the 1st two years and Rs. 28,000/- (Rupees twenty eight thousand) only + HRA as admissible per month for the 3rd year for SRF and applicable to the candidate having post graduate degree in Basic Science with NET/GATE/BET qualification or post graduate degree in professional course. Rs. 12,000/- (Rupees twelve thousand) only + HRA as admissible per month for the 1st two years and Rs. 14,000/- (Rupees fourteen thousand) only + HRA as admissible per month for the 3 rd year for SRF, for the candidate without NET/GATE/BET qualification. BIRAC Innovation Fellowships Qualification & Eligibility

BIRAC Innovation Fellowships are highly competitive and prestigious. Under each University Innovation Clusters there are two Post-Doctoral and four Post Masters position.

Stipend / Fellowship (consolidated)
Post-doctoral = Rs 50,000 per month
Post Masters = Rs 30,000 per month.

Duration of Fellowships:
Both Post-Doctoral and Post-Masters fellowships are for two years extendable to one more year depending on the progress of the project and decision of the technical committee.

The University Innovation Clusters established at the five Universities have their broad scientific areas under which BIRAC Innovation Fellows will be selected. The qualification and eligibility of each UIC has been mentioned below.

Selected applicants will be called for a detailed project presentation and personal interview in front of an expert committee for final selection of the BIRAC Innovation Fellows.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The candidate is expected to work on a variety of projects related to analysis of data from NGS, Mass Spectrometry, Flow Cytometry and other related modalities. The position expects hands-on work and a strong eye for detail. The candidate will be able to contribute to impactful work spanning patient care, clinical research, and new assay and method development.
REQUIREMENTS
A PhD in a quantitative field (statistics, math, bioinformatics, computer science, physics or similar) and work experience or post-doc experience handling high throughout genomics data.
PREFERENCES
Experience in working in inter-disciplinary groups and ability to author research publications are additional desired qualities.
