About Fellowship:
CSIR Nehru Science Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Scheme is an Research Fellowship awarded/given by HRD Ministry, Govt. of India every year to more than 100 fellows.

It was started to identify promising and young researchers with novel ideas and provide them research opportunities in the areas of basic science, engineering, medicine & agriculture.

The fellowship aims at facilitating their transition from mentored to independent research career.

Eligibility: To be eligible for this fellowship, you:
1.) PhD degree (within 3 years of award of PhD degree), OR

4.) Indian nationals, Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) & Overseas Citizen of India (OCI), a can also apply.
5.) Maximum Age Limit: 32 years.

Duration:
– 2 Years.
– extendable for a maximum of 1 more year based on performance.

Remuneration:
– Rs. 50,000/- per month plus House Rent Allowance (HRA)
– A contingency grant of Rs. 3.0 lakh per annum.
– 25% of the contingency grant can be used for domestic and international travel.

SciGenom Research Foundation (SGRF) and Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB) are pleased to host the Next-Generation Sequencing and Bioinformatics for Genomics & Healthcare conference.

In the ten years since the first human reference genome was completed for US$3 billion the sequencing technologies have radically changed leading to great reduction in sequencing cost. Today a human genome can be sequenced for under US$ 5000 in less than two weeks. It is expected that by the end of 2015 the cost of sequencing a human genome will drop to below thousand dollars. The next generation sequencing technologies over the past five years have enabled a large number of genomic studies that impact human health and disease. Also, this has made possible the growth of microbial, animal and plant genomics studies. While the data production has increased at a rapid pace challenges remain in analyzing and understanding the data. Biocon, India's largest publicly-held biotechnology firm, launched its second novel 'lab-to-market' molecule, Alzumab, to treat chronic plaque psoriasis at a cost 50 per cent lower than the existing one.

Biocon is bringing Alzumab (a biologic) in the form of a vial after working on it for nearly a decade. The work had initially started in a joint effort with the Center of Molecular Immunology, Havana, but Biocon took control of the programme soon after and also bought out its partner a few years ago. Biocon tell to the media that genotypic played a critical role in functional studies and clinical trial Genomics.

The Biocon drug, at around ₹ 7,500 a vial, will cost half as much as the currently available drugs - from Pfizer and J&J - to treat psoriasis, a skin disease that causes rough red areas where the skin comes off in small pieces. A patient is usually prescribed to consume more than 40 vials in a 24-week course.

RNAs, especially non-coding RNAs (such as microRNA, long ncRNAs) are recently identified to be very abundant in mammalian organisms and play some key roles in gene expression regulation, gene silencing, and also implicated in disease progression, stem cell pluripotency etc. Current research activities of our lab include analysis of expression pattern of ncRNAs by microarray and next-gen sequencing data and understanding the role of miRNAs or other regulatory RNAs in various diseases, especially cancer and validation by reporter assays (renilla/luciferase) and other experimental tools.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

RA: The ideal applicant should have a PhD in a relevant field. He/she should have a strong computational biology background, with demonstrated experience in coding using Perl, Python, Java or C++. He/she should be familiar with working in unix enviromnent, devising computational algorithms for data analysis, statistical data analysis in R and matlab and database programming using MySQL. Hands on experience in analyzing high throughput data would be an added advantage.

JRF* (DBT project): M.Sc. in Life Sciences or M.Tech in Biotechnology with good academic record (Minimum of 60% aggregate). Valid UGC-CSIR/DBT/ICMR JRF qualification and laboratory experience in molecular biology. Previous experience in molecular biology and animal tissue culture with high throughput platforms and ability to work with a large team would be desirable.

JRF (ACTREC project): M.Sc. in Life Sciences or M.Tech in Biotechnology with good academic record (Minimum of 60% aggregate). Minimum 2 yrs experience in molecular biology and animal tissue culture with high throughput platforms and ability to work with a large team is essential.

Each node will host student interns interested in pursuing a research career in mathematical or computational biology at institutions located in its region.

Eligibility: Bachelors (3rd or 4th year) and Masters students

Average duration: 3 months (could be more in certain cases). These internships can be availed at any time during 2014 subject to consent from the faculty mentor.

Fellowship amount: Rs. 10,000 per month. In addition, outstation interns can receive up to Rs. 5000 per month for accommodation and Rs. 3000 for travel from and to their home place.
