After their presentation at the international “user!” conference, data analysis specialist eoda starts the public alpha testing of translate2R. With the start of alpha testing the innovative migration solution by the company hailing from Kassel discards the working title “translateR” and takes on the final product brand name “translate2R”. translate2R is a service for the automated translation of SPSS® syntax to R code, therefore supporting data analysts with a quick and low-risk migration to R.

The manual translation of many, frequently rather complex SPSS scripts often presents itself as a tedious and error-prone task, and represents a rather large obstacle for many analysts and companies to migrate to a modern, open source data management and analysis tool like R. With translate2R this hurdle will be diminished substantially.

This is a fixed term post for 24 months.

We wish to recruit a highly motivated, postdoctoral scientist to carry out a BBSRC funded project in the laboratory of Dr. Denis Larkin. The project is focused on developing and applying new methods and algorithms to study genome and chromosome evolution in mammals and other animals using whole-genome sequences and existing algorithms (e.g., Damas et al. Genome Res. 2017. 27(5):875-884; Kim et al., Proc Natl Acad Sci USA. 2013. 110 (5)). The post holder will use cutting edge computational and laboratory approaches to generate chromosomal assemblies for sequenced genomes, study chromosomal structures and differences between mammalian and other vertebrate genomes in attempt to identify species- and clade-specific genome signatures.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. and a track record of success, as indicated by first-author publications in international journals. They must possess excellent organisation skills and be capable of individual initiative and of interacting as part of a team. Applicants with extensive practical experience in bioinformatics or computer science, programming, visualization, handling of large data sets, high-performance computing are encouraged to apply. The post will involve collaboration with a wide range of academic partners both within the EU and worldwide.

Experience in programming, bioinformatics and comparative genome analysis is essential. Applicants should have a minimum of a degree and preferably a higher degree in a relevant subject.

The Royal Veterinary College has the largest range of veterinary, para-veterinary and animal science undergraduate and postgraduate courses of any veterinary school in the world and is one of the largest veterinary schools in Europe.

EWAS2.0 can analyze EWAS data and identify the association between epigenetic variations and disease/phenotype. On the basis of EWAS1.0, we have added more distinctive features. The graduate courses outlined in the table mainly exist as a coursework component of an MSc or PhD degree. Of course, many institutions will also have pure research programs in Bioinformatics at the Hons, MSc, or PhD level and will not have a 'coursework component'. These research programs may not always reflect the main research program of the institution since the research depends upon the interests of a particular individual or small team within that institution. It is difficult to track these individual research programs. Consequently, we have not included all institutions with a bioinformatics research project. Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary subject and this is reflected in the fact that the courses are offered by departments or schools as diverse as: computer science, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, engineering, and mathematics.
