Here is the list Bioinformatics courses offered around the world. Reasons for constructing this page are:

  1. To show the extent of growth of this new discipline
  2. To provide a resource for students, and academics and
  3. To access notes on the subject to allow some brief comparisons between courses.

The graduate courses outlined in the table mainly exist as a coursework component of an MSc or PhD degree. Of course, many institutions will also have pure research programs in Bioinformatics at the Hons, MSc, or PhD level and will not have a 'coursework component'. These research programs may not always reflect the main research program of the institution since the research depends upon the interests of a particular individual or small team within that institution. It is difficult to track these individual research programs. Consequently, we have not included all institutions with a bioinformatics research project. Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary subject and this is reflected in the fact that the courses are offered by departments or schools as diverse as: computer science, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, engineering, and mathematics. Similarly, bioinformatics may also be known by other names such as: computational biology, biocomputing, molecular informatics, computational molecular biology, biological information theory, molecular phylogenetics, and molecular bioinformatics.

It will give insight into how biological knowledge can be generated from high-throughput sequencing (DNA-Seq, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq) experiments and will illustrate how to analyze such data. The course covers both the underlying statistical and algorithmic concepts, and the practice of how to automate and code such analyses using the scripting language R.

CDSA has a national mandate of strengthening capacity and capability building in the area of Clinical development and Translational Research.

CDSA is pleased to announce a 4 days hands-on training program on “Essentials of Statistics and Data Analysis using R” at ICGEB, Aruna Asaf Ali Road, New Delhi on December 1 – 4, 2015. This will involve developing and enhancing skills to understand basic principles of statistics for summarizing data and use of appropriate statistical tests as well as providing an understanding of data analysis using R. Didactic lectures with practical sessions will be delivered by experienced faculties from AIIMS and Novartis. Live classroom with power point presentations, case studies, mock exercise, practical sessions on R, group work with time for discussion and Q&A sessions are added advantages of this workshop.

Since the size of the databases is often exponential, the traditional algorithms are not very effective when seeking for a good computational solution.

To take care of this issue, many ways are opened to the researchers to improve the quality of the algorithms:

1. Usage of new information processing methods like artificial neuronal networks, genetic algorithms, etc. 2. Usage of Data mining  to explore biochemical databases,
3. Usage of Machine learning on the biological examples to solve, for example, the problem of classification in Bioinformatics.

UFR offers in addition a doctoral training in Computer Science and Bioinformatics.

Doctoral module which includes: a Diplôme des Etudes Supérieures Approfondies (DESA)  of two years; and a doctorate studies program with a national Ph.D. certification. Three specializations constitute the teaching trunk of the ENSAT: Computer engineering, Telecom  engineering, and electronic systems engineering.

Research Interest and Activities:

1. Machine Learning and Profile Gene Expression of Cancer
2. Predicting Protein structure
3. Hidden Markov Models (HMMs) and multiple alignments
4. Transformational Grammar for sequence modelling
