After their presentation at the international “user!” conference, data analysis specialist eoda starts the public alpha testing of translate2R. With the start of alpha testing the innovative migration solution by the company hailing from Kassel discards the working title “translateR” and takes on the final product brand name “translate2R”. translate2R is a service for the automated translation of SPSS® syntax to R code, therefore supporting data analysts with a quick and low-risk migration to R.

The manual translation of many, frequently rather complex SPSS scripts often presents itself as a tedious and error-prone task, and represents a rather large obstacle for many analysts and companies to migrate to a modern, open source data management and analysis tool like R. With translate2R this hurdle will be diminished substantially.

Find at https://service.eoda.de/translater/?lang=en

A Brief Bioinformatics Tutorial

This is about how to use a computer to find what is known about a gene of interest and also how to get new insights about it.

The tutorial is divided in three main parts:

In the Sequence part, you will see how to look efficiently for a particular protein sequence, how to blast it against the database of your choice to find homologues, how to perform a multiple alignment of the homologues you've selected and how to edit this alignment.

The Structure part is about molecular visualization, homology modeling and structural domain prediction.

In the Function part, you will be introduced to you 3 useful servers to investigate the function of a protein. i.e. finding interactors, co-expressed genes, see a phylogenetic profile, easily access papers citing your gene etc ...

During all the three parts, we will use the S. cerevisiae VPS36 protein as an example.

Address of the bookmark: http://www.mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk/rlw/text/bioinfo_tuto/introduction.html

This package is intended to provide tools for the quality assessment of data produced by Oxford Nanopore’s MinION sequencer. It includes a functions to generate a number plots for examining the statistics that we think will be useful for this task.

However, nanopore sequencing is an emerging and rapidly developing technology. It is not clear what will be most informative. We hope that
IONiseR
will provide a framework for visualisation of metrics that we haven’t thought of, and welcome feedback at mike.smith@embl.de.
