	<title><![CDATA[Naegleria fowleri: brain eating amoebae]]></title>
	<description><![CDATA[<div><em>Naegleria fowleri</em>&nbsp;is a free living, universally distributed amoeba, which is mostly found in natural, stagnant, warm water bodies such as ponds, lakes, etc. It is also reported to be present even in indoor water bodies, such as swimming pools within a temperature range of 40&ndash;45&deg;C.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><img src="https://d.newsweek.com/en/full/351971/naegleria-fowleri.jpg" alt="image" width="720" height="634" style="border: 0px; border: 0px;">&nbsp;</div><div><em style="font-size: 12.8px;">N. fowleri</em>&nbsp;infects the central nervous system of human body by entering through the nose during swimming and outdoor baths in natural stagnant water bodies, leading to meningoencephalitis. It is a condition of inflammation of cerebral tissues and membranes of the brain and is mostly fatal in nature. 	<description><![CDATA[<p>FaBI emerged from the respective groups of the four founding societies GI (German Informatics Society), DECHEMA (Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology), GBM (Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) and GDCh (German Chemical Society). In fall 2015, the GMDS (German Society for Medical Informatics, Biometry, and Epidemiology) joined FaBI. <p>SANBI are looking to recruit two MSc students and a PhD student who are interested in implementing a computational biology approach to explore HIV’s glycan shield. Successful candidates for the MSc should hold an honours degree in physics, computer science or biological sciences while PhD applicants should hold an honours degree and a MSc in one or more of physics, computer science or biological sciences.</p>

<p>As these positions are funded by the South African National Research Foundation (NRF) priority will be given to South African citizens and permanent residents however exceptional applicants who do not fulfil these criteria may be considered.</p>

	<title><![CDATA[Applied Computational Genomics Course at UU: Spring 2020]]></title>
	<description><![CDATA[<p><span>This course will provide a comprehensive introduction to fundamental concepts and experimental approaches in the analysis and interpretation of experimental genomics data. It will be structured as a series of lectures covering key concepts and analytical strategies. A diverse range of biological questions enabled by modern DNA sequencing technologies will be explored including sequence alignment, the identification of genetic variation, structural variation, and ChIP-seq and RNA-seq analysis. <p>A fully funded position as PhD Research Fellow in genomics/bioinformatics is available at the Section for Genetics and Evolutionary Biology (EVOGENE) at the Department of Biosciences, University of Oslo.</p>

<p>The fellowship will be for a period of 3 years, or for a period of 4 years, with 25 % compulsory work (e.g. teaching responsibilities at the department) contingent on the qualifications of the candidate and the teaching needs of the department.</p>

  <description><![CDATA[
<p>Sandelin group have a deep interest in most biology, but focus on gene regulation and the many areas that are connected with this, including transcriptomics, epigenetics and technological and informatics aspects.</p>

<p>The group is both computational and experimental.</p>

<p>We ask biological questions to large datasets made using novel genomics techniques, with the help of computers. One of the strengths in the group are the many connections to high-profile experimental laboratories which supply data to be analyzed.</p>
