	<title><![CDATA[FOGSAA: Fast Optimal Global Sequence Alignment Algorithm]]></title>
	<description><![CDATA[<p>Sequence alignment algorithms are widely used to infer similarirty and the point of differences between pair of sequences. FOGSAA is a fast Global alignment algorithm. It is basically a branch and bound approach which starts branch expansion in a greedy way taking the symbols from the given pair of sequences (protein or nucleotide) and results in an optimal alignment faster than conventional dymanic programming techniques. 	<description><![CDATA[<p><span>lordFAST is a sensitive tool for mapping long reads with high error rates. lordFAST is specially designed for aligning reads from PacBio sequencing technology but provides the user the ability to change alignment parameters depending on the reads and application.</span></p>
<p>lordFAST, a novel long-read mapper that is specifically designed to align reads generated by PacBio and potentially other SMS technologies to a reference. lordFAST not only has higher sensitivity than the available alternatives, it is also among the fastest and has a very low memory footprint.</p>

  <title><![CDATA[Pre- or postdoctoral research fellowship in Structural Bioinformatics at Padova]]></title>
  <description><![CDATA[
<p>A research fellowship for a software developer is available at the BioComputing UP Laboratory, University of Padova (URL: http://protein.bio.unipd.it/).<br />A highly motivated and creative candidate is sought to work on structural bioinformatics. Specifically, the project entails the development of novel methods, tools and databases for the analysis of protein structures.</p>

<p>The BioComputing UP Laboratory, headed by Prof. Silvio Tosatto, is a dynamic group of a dozen people working on several aspects of prediction of protein structure &amp; function employing techniques at the intersection between biology, medicine, chemistry, physics &amp; computer science.<br />Our aim is to integrate the development of novel methods and their application to biologically relevant problems.</p>

<p>We are looking for candidates with a solid Bioinformatics background, programming experience (Python, C++ and/or Java) and good knowledge of molecular biology (protein structure/function). Good knowledge of statistics as well as experience in using database systems (MongoDB, MySQL and/or Postgres) is desirable. Candidates should have a degree with top marks, optionally hold a PhD, and be highly motivated to work on interdisciplinary research. Good knowledge of English, an open-minded spirit, being collaborative and creative are crucial.</p>

<p>The fellowship, which should start as soon as possible, is renewable and initially for one year. It will be commensurate to experience, can be extended depending on performance and may lead to a PhD degree. The successful candidate will be working full-time at the BioComputing UP Laboratory, University of Padova. 	<title><![CDATA[DAVI: Deep learning-based tool for alignment and single nucleotide variant identification]]></title>
	<description><![CDATA[<p>DAVI consists of models for both global and local alignment and for variant calling. We have evaluated the performance of DAVI against existing state-of-the-art tool sets and found that its accuracy and performance is comparable to existing tools used for bench-marking. We further demonstrate that while existing tools are based on data generated from a specific sequencing technology, the models proposed in DAVI are generic and can be used across different NGS technologies as well as across different species</p>

	<description><![CDATA[<p><span>ACANA is an accurate and consistent alignment tool for DNA sequences. ACANA is specifically designed for aligning sequences that share only some moderately conserved regions and/or have a high frequency of long insertions or deletions. It attempts to combine the best of local and global alignments algorithms in searching for evolutionarily related regions of sequences in order to achieve the best alignment. ACANA is also robust to the small changes of alignment parameters, particularly the gap extension score.
