The IITM-Tokyo Tech Joint Symposium is a biannual international symposium held in Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), India in collaboration with Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo-Tech), Japan. During the symposium, experts in various domains of Bioinformatics gather from India and Japan under one roof to discuss and present their works. This provides an unique opportunity to the researchers and students to learn the frontiers and interact with eminent scientists in Bioinformatics. The 5th IITM - Tokyo Tech Joint Symposium titled "Current trends in Bioinformatics: Big data analysis, machine learning and drug design", will be held on 6th - 7th March 2020 in IITM, Chennai, India.

Applications are invited for a post of Research Associate (RA) or Senior Research Fellow (SRF) in the ICMR project on "Integrated Analysis of Multi-omics Data in Human Gliomas".

We are looking for a motivated candidate for handling proteomic and/or transcriptomic and other data with a strong background in bioinformatics tools and database development. The project will include identification of novel peptides from mass spectrometry-based proteomic data.

Familiarity with statistical tools or wet lab experience will be an added advantage. The position is open for immediate appointment and available for two years. The applicant will be appointed as Research Associate or Senior Research Fellow based on qualifications as detailed below:

Research Associate: Ph.D. in Biological Science or Bioinformatics with relevant publications in peer reviewed journals. Familiarity with bioinformatics tools, database development, programming skills and proteomic and/or other omics data analysis. Salary will be as per ICMR rules and guidelines.

Senior Research Fellow: M.Sc./B.Tech. in any branch of biology/ biotechnology/bioinformatics, with minimum 2 years of research experience (essential). Familiarity with bioinformatics tools, database development, programming skills and proteomic data analysis. Salary will be as per ICMR rules and guidelines.

Applications are invited from suitable candidates for filling up the purely temporary position of one Senior Research Fellow in DST’s Indo-Australian Joint project (with ICRISAT) entitled “Genomic Approach for Stress Tolerant Chickpea” under the guidance of Dr. Mukesh Jain, Scientist, NIPGR.

(A) Senior Research Fellow (One Post): Emoluments as per DST/DBT norms.

Candidates having M.Sc. degree (with minimum of 55% marks) or equivalent in Life Sciences/Biotechnology/Bioinformatics/ Molecular Biology or any other related field with minimum of two years of post M.Sc. research experience are eligible to apply. The candidate having computer skill (Linux, Perl, Java, MySQL) and/or experience in advanced molecular biology, next generation sequencing data analysis and molecular markers analysis will be preferred.

The position is completely on temporary basis and co-terminus with the project. The initial appointment will be for one year, which can be curtailed/extended on the basis of assessment of the candidate’s performance and discretion of the Competent Authority. NIPGR reserves the right to select the candidate against the above posts depending upon the qualifications and experience of the candidates. One profile of Computational/Systems Biology and Machine Learning at Postdoc level is needed at the Laboratory of Immunobiology of Neurological Disorders led by Cinthia Farina, Institute of Experimental Neurology, Ospedale San Raffaele, Milano. The projects of interest for this application involve research on translational bioinformatics in complex human disorders.

You have a PhD in Computational Science, Bioinformatics, or equivalent.

Especially relevant skills for the profile are:
1. In-depth understanding and implementation of methods and development of
algorithms for statistical and machine learning classification, clustering, predictive
modelling.
2. Experience on transcriptomics and clinical data analysis, in particular gene regulatory networks, protein interactomes, development of diagnostic tools.

3. Solid experience with data mining, bioinformatics programming and statistics for bioinformatics.
4. Flexibility and willing to work across multiple projects and technology in a rapidly evolving scientific context.

Candidates with programming/scripting experience are also welcome. In particular, proficiency in one or more mainstream programming languages (C, C++, Java, Python, Perl, etc.), together with the understanding of relational database design and SQL/DBMS systems (e.g. MySQL, PHP, Oracle).
Experience with the analysis of next-generation sequencing data is a plus.
Clear demonstration of experience in analysis and modelling of omics and clinical data must be provided.

Computational Biology Summer Research Programme

IMSc has a limited programme for highly motivated bachelors and masters students interested in research in the areas of Theoretical Physics, Mathematics, Theoretical Computer Science and Computational Biology to visit the Institute over their summer vacation. In addition, IMSc also accepts students through the summer program organized by the joint Indian Academies of Science.
General Structure
This is a limited programme, depending on the availability of infrastructure and faculty advisors. We typically select about 25 students across disciplines although this number varies a bit from year to year. These visits typically span 6-8 weeks during the summer (May-July). There is also a provision for a 4-6 month visit, typically during January-April or August-November for extended project work.

Qualifications
Students currently in their pre-final or final year of BSc/BE/BTech or first year MSc/ME/MTech or equivalent with a good academic record are encouraged to apply through IMSc's formal application process.

Stipend
Selected students will be paid 2nd class round trip train fare plus Rs.200 per diem. Accommodation will be provided in the hostel during summer, subject to availability.
