Assistant Professor in Rapid Marine Adaptation @ UVienna

The University of Vienna invites applications for a Tenure Track Professorship in the field of Rapid Marine Adaptation. We seek a scientist with an outstanding record in marine evolutionary genomics who investigates rapid evolutionary responses—such as evolutionary rescue—through field studies and/or experimental evolution in the laboratory. Preferred model systems should be eukaryotic marine organisms that have vital roles in oceanic or coastal ecosystems. The successful candidate will cooperate with physiologists, ecologists, biochemists, systems biologists and evolutionary biologists in Vienna to link genomic targets of selection to organismal phenotypes and local environmental conditions. This integrative work will advance mechanistic understanding and predictive modeling of rapid adaptation to climate change in marine environments and inform effective marine conservation strategies across Europe.
For more information see: https://jobs.univie.ac.at/job/Tenure-Track-Professorship-in-Rapid-Marine-Adaptation/1417563233/

GraphMap - A highly sensitive and accurate mapper for long, error-prone reads

GraphMap is a novel mapper targeted at aligning long, error-prone third-generation sequencing data.
It is designed to handle Oxford Nanopore MinION 1d and 2d reads with very high sensitivity and accuracy, and also presents a significant improvement over the state-of-the-art for PacBio read mappers.

GraphMap was also designed for ease-of-use: the default parameters can handle a wide range of read lengths and error profiles, including: Illumina, PacBio and Oxford Nanopore.
This is an especially important feature for technologies where the error rates and error profiles can vary widely across, or even within, sequencing runs.

Written by Stephen Turner, based on the Lander-Waterman formula, inspired by a similar calculator written by James Hadfield.
