	<title><![CDATA[NCBI to assist in Virus Hunting Data Science Hackathon]]></title>
	<description><![CDATA[<p>NCBI Hackathon are pleased to announce the second installment of the&nbsp;<a href="https://ncbiinsights.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2017/11/30/ncbi-southern-california-genomics-hackathon-january/" target="_blank">SoCal Bioinformatics Hackathon</a>. From January 9-11, 2019, the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/" target="_blank">NCBI</a>&nbsp;will help run a bioinformatics hackathon in Southern California hosted by the&nbsp;<a href="http://www.csrc.sdsu.edu/" target="_blank">Computational Sciences Research Center</a>&nbsp;at&nbsp;<a href="http://www.sdsu.edu/" target="_blank">San Diego State University</a>!</p><p><span>NCBI Hackathon</span>&nbsp;specifically looking for folks who have experience in computational virus hunting or adjacent fields to identify known, taxonomically-definable and novel viruses from a few hundred thousand metagenomic datasets that we&rsquo;ll put on cloud infrastructure. This event is for researchers, including students and postdocs, who are already engaged in the use of bioinformatics data or in the development of pipelines for virological analyses from high-throughput experiments. 	<description><![CDATA[<p>The IPython Notebook is a web-based interactive computational environment where you can combine code execution, text, mathematics, plots and rich media into a single document.</p><p>These notebooks are normal files that can be shared with colleagues, converted to other formats such as HTML or PDF, etc. You can share any publicly available notebook by using the IPython Notebook Viewer service which will render it as a static web page. Clustergrammer's front end (</span><a href="http://clustergrammer.readthedocs.io/clustergrammer_js.html#clustergrammer-js">Clustergrammer-JS</a><span>) is built using&nbsp;</span><a href="https://d3js.org/">D3.js</a><span>&nbsp;and its back-end (</span><a href="http://clustergrammer.readthedocs.io/clustergrammer_py.html#clustergrammer-py">Clustergrammer-PY</a><span>) is built using Python. <p>King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) (kaust.edu.sa) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled faculty member for the Bioinformatics track whose research focuses on development of methods and tools for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.<br />KAUST is an international, graduate-level research university dedicated to advancing science and technology through interdisciplinary research, education, and innovation. Located on the shores of the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia, KAUST offers superb research facilities, generous assured research funding, and internationally competitive salaries, attracting top international faculty, scientists, engineers, and students to conduct fundamental and goal-oriented research to address the world’s pressing scientific and technological challenges in the areas of food, water, energy, and the environment.<br />The successful applicant is expected to develop world-leading research in domain of bioinformatics/computational biology with focus on development of novel computational approaches for efficient and accurate methods of analyzing biological phenomena at molecular level. The faculty member will be part of the Computational Bioscience Research Center (CBRC) within the Computer, Electrical and Mathematical Sciences and Engineering (CEMSE) Division. The position will remain open until filled.<br /> <br />Requirements:<br /> <br />PhD or equivalent in a Computer Science, Mathematics or Engineering discipline. Candidates should be well-established within the research field relevant to the position grade. They should demonstrate original research and experience at the highest international level.<br /> <br />Responsibilities and tasks:<br /> <br />Research competence in the following areas is preferred:<br />Analysis of next generation sequencing (NGS) and other ‘omics’ data (e.g. CAGE, ChIP-Seq, DHS, RNA-Seq, Ribo-Seq, proteomic, metabolic and NMR spectra, etc.).<br />Signaling, regulatory and metabolic pathways analysis.<br />Development of tools (web-based and standalone) suited for efficient computational biology/bioinformatics.<br /> <br /> <br />Visit cemse.kaust.edu.sa to apply.</p>
