<p>Jawaharlal Nehru University has been granted funds by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India to initiate an Inter-School programme in JNU to strengthen training and research called "DBT-Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-Interdisciplinary Life Science Programme for Advanced Research and education" with the broad project area entitled "From Molecules to Systems: Exploring biological space using chemical and synthetic biology" cutting across Physical, Chemical and Biological Sciences.</p>

<p>Applications are invited for the following purely temporary posts at various levels in the various Group projects for Research and Technical positions. The project is upto March 2017, but the appointments shall be initially for a period of one year, renewable every year depending on the performance of project staff:</p>

<p>Project Sub-Title: Synthetic Genomics: Making sense out of 'junk' DNA</p>

<p>Senior Research Fellow (SRF) - 01 Post</p>

<p>Qualifications: M.Sc in Bioinformatics, with minimum 2 year research experience, specialization in microRNA, molecular modelling, systems and/or Synthetic biology with publication in the relevant area would be desirable.</p>

<p>Investigator: Prof. Pawan Kumar Dhar</p>

<p>Fellowship: Rs. 14000+30% HRA p.m.</p>

<p>Project Sub-Title: "Structure, function, and dynamics of biomolecules and Molecular engineering"</p>

<p>Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) - 01 Post</p>

<p>Essential Qualifications: PhD in Science(Bioinformatics/Computational Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, &amp; Statistics), specialized in the area of Computational Biology/Structural Bioinformatics/ Quantum Chemistry/Molecular Dynamics &amp; Simulation /Systems Biology , reflected by thesis topics and or publication of papers during PhD and/or Post doctoral experience.</p>

<p>Desirable Qualifications: Computational methods and designing experience in the field of Structure based or ligand based drug design, Chemoinformatics, Programming capabilities as required for developing tools in the computational &amp; systems Biology.</p>

<p>Investigator: Prof. Indira Ghosh, SCIS</p>

<p>Salary: Rs. 22, 000 + 30% HRA</p>

	<title><![CDATA[DBT – Bioinformatics Industrial Training Programme (BIITP) 2016 – 17]]></title>
	<description><![CDATA[<p>BIITP is a programme of Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, managed by Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL).The objective of BIITP is to provide an opportunity to bioinformatics students to acquire practical skills and experience by working on projects alongside industry experts as well as to provide an opportunity for the industry to identify potential employees.</p><p><strong>DBT Invites online applications from the bioinformatics&nbsp;students and requisitions from biotech/bioinformatics companies.</strong></p><p><strong>Biotech Industry</strong>&nbsp;:</p><p>Biotech/Bioinformatics companies interested to provide hands on industrial training to the students of Bioinformatics under BIITP may apply online. <p>Project :“Genetic Transformation and Development of Elite Transgenic Maize (Zea mays L.) for Biotic and Abiotic Stresses Tolerance”.</p>

<p>Qualification: Ph.D. degree in:Biotechnology/Bioinformatics/Biochemistry/Plant Molecular Biology/Plant Physiology/Botany or any related area with evidence of prior experience in maize transformation.</p>

<p>Additional experience in plant transformation of any cereal crop would be preferable.</p>

<p>The appointment would initially be for one year.</p>

	<description><![CDATA[<p><span>SeqMule takes single-end or paird-end FASTQ or BAM files, generates a script consisting of more than 10 popular alignment, analysis tools and runs the script line by line. Users can change the pipeline or fine-tune the parameters by modifying its configuration file. SeqMule also has some built-in functions, such as pooling consensus calls from various callers, plotting a Venn diagram showing intersection among different callers, and downloading databases. 	<title><![CDATA[gbtools: Interactive Visualization of Metagenome Bins in R]]></title>
	<description><![CDATA[<p><span>We have developed gbtools, a software package that allows users to visualize metagenomic assemblies by plotting coverage (sequencing depth) and GC values of contigs, and also to annotate the plots with taxonomic information. Different sets of annotations, including taxonomic assignments from conserved marker genes or SSU rRNA genes, can be imported simultaneously; users can choose which annotations to plot. Bins can be manually defined from plots, or be imported from third-party binning tools and overlaid onto plots, such that results from different methods can be compared side-by-side. gbtools reports summary statistics of bins including marker gene completeness, and allows the user to add or subtract bins with each other.&nbsp;</span></p>

It is easy for machines to parse and generate. It is based on a subset of the&nbsp;<a href="http://javascript.crockford.com/">JavaScript Programming Language</a>,&nbsp;<a href="http://www.ecma-international.org/publications/files/ecma-st/ECMA-262.pdf">Standard ECMA-262 3rd Edition - December 1999</a>. JSON is a text format that is completely language independent but uses conventions that are familiar to programmers of the C-family of languages, including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Perl, Python, and many others. These properties make JSON an ideal data-interchange language.</p>
<p>JSON is built on two structures:</p>
<ul>
<li>A collection of name/value pairs. In various languages, this is realized as an&nbsp;<em>object</em>, record, struct, dictionary, hash table, keyed list, or associative array.</li>
<li>An ordered list of values. In most languages, this is realized as an&nbsp;<em>array</em>, vector, list, or sequence.</li>
</ul>
<p>These are universal data structures. Virtually all modern programming languages support them in one form or another. 	<description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Lifemap</strong> is an interactive tool to explore the WHOLE NCBI TAXONOMY. The concept used in <strong>Lifemap</strong> is similar to the one used in cartography with tools like Google Maps&copy; or Open Street Maps: exploring is done by zooming and panning.</p>

<p>&nbsp;The current tree contains ALL species present in NCBI taxonomy as of <span style="text-decoration: underline;">October 18th, 2016</span>: 1,135,169 species including 10,545 Archaea, 418,777 Bacteria and 705,847 Eukaryotes. The Lifemap tree is updated every two weeks.</p>

<p>&nbsp;All the nodes in the tree are clickable. This displays various information and options:</p>
<ul>
<li>The species name (and the associated common name if there is one)</li>
<li>The rank (kingdom, family, class, species...)</li>
<li>Ability to go to the corresponding node/species on NCBI web site (displayed in a new window)</li>
<li>Possibility to download the corresponding subtree in newick extended format</li>
<li>Possibilty to get the whole lineage from the current node/tip to the root of the tree.</li>
