Description:  There is an urgent need to translate genome-era discoveries into clinical utility, but the difficulties in making bench-to-bedside translations haven't been well described. The nascent field of translational bioinformatics may help. Dr. Butte's lab at Stanford University builds and applies tools that convert more than 300 billion points of molecular, clinical, and epidemiological data (measured by researchers and clinicians over the past decade) into diagnostics, therapeutics, and new insights into disease. Dr. Butte, a bioinformatician and pediatric endocrinologist, will highlight his lab's work on using publicly available molecular measurements to find new uses for drugs, discovering new treatable mechanisms of disease in type 2 diabetes, and evaluating patients presenting with whole genomes sequenced. 

The NIH Wednesday Afternoon Lecture Series includes weekly scientific talks by some of the top researchers in the biomedical sciences worldwide.

<p>The Institute of Neurobiology UNAM (www.inb.unam.mx) offers a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor (Investigador Asociado C) to develop an original research program in Bioinformatics with applications to neuroscience and to establish multidisciplinary collaboration with other members of the Institute. Applicants are expected to have a doctorate degree, postdoctoral experience related to bioinformatics or genome biology, and a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications. No previous experience in neuroscience is required.</p>

	<title><![CDATA[Sequence Ontology Bioinformatics Analysis (SOBA) tool to provide a simple statistical and graphical summary of an annotated genome]]></title>
	<description><![CDATA[<p><span>We have developed the Sequence Ontology Bioinformatics Analysis (SOBA) tool to provide a simple statistical and graphical summary of an annotated genome. We envisage its use during annotation jamborees, genome comparison and for use by developers for rapid feedback during annotation software development and testing. SOBA also provides annotation consistency feedback to ensure correct use of terminology within annotations, and guides users to add new terms to the Sequence Ontology when required. SOBA is available at http://www.sequenceontology.org/cgi-bin/soba.cgi.</span></p>
