Essential Qualification:

Traineeship: Candidate having B.Tech or Master Degree or equivalent in Bioinformatics/ Biotechnology with strong interest in Computational Biology and First class/ division throughout academic career may apply.

Studentship: Students currently pursuing the final year of B.Tech or Masters Degree or equivalent in Bioinformatics/ Biotechnology, requiring a thesis as a necessary pre-requisite for completion of respective degree and First class/ division throughout academic career may apply.

Desirable Qualification: Proficiency in Coding Algorithms and Bioinformatics Applications, evidenced by short trainings or computing courses.

The positions are purely temporary and co-terminus with the tenure of the training period as mentioned above. NIPGR reserves the right to select the candidate against the above fellowship depending upon the qualification and experience of the candidate. Reservations shall be as per Govt. of India norms. • Importantly, this study found many large population groups from India in which individuals were more related to each other by descent. These groups are similar to the Finnish population group where many disease gene discoveries were made. The Finnish-equivalent Indian groups are going to be a great resource for disease gene discovery and they will aid in target identification, drug development and disease management. 

• This study has identified many genetic variants that are specific to Indian population groups that were previously not known. Some of these are common variants in the Indian groups, but when first identified by previous studies from India involving smaller sample size, they were thought to be disease causing (for example in diabetes) as they were not represented in the Eurocentric variant database. 

• Several variants that pre-dispose individuals to higher cancer risk were identified in this study. Once this part of the work is expanded, the data from this can be used to screen individuals to understand the disease risk and provide appropriate monitoring and proactive treatment. Similarly, variants linked to increase in adverse effect in individuals for certain drugs were found. Understanding this will allow doctors to provide alternate safer drugs to such patients.

Eligibility conditions for specific areas of research are :
Statistical Genomics : An applicant who wishes to pursue research in Statistical Genomics should hold a Master's degree (First class or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (Statistics, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, or a related discipline)

About Fellowship:
CSIR Nehru Science Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Scheme is an Research Fellowship awarded/given by HRD Ministry, Govt. of India every year to more than 100 fellows.

It was started to identify promising and young researchers with novel ideas and provide them research opportunities in the areas of basic science, engineering, medicine & agriculture.

The fellowship aims at facilitating their transition from mentored to independent research career.

DBT-Junior Research Fellowship (DBT-JRF) in Biotechnology (2020)

BIOTECHNOLOGY ELIGIBILITY TEST (BET) 2020

Applications are invited from bonafide Indian citizens, residing in India for award of “DBT-Junior Research Fellowship” (DBT-JRF) for pursuing research in frontier areas of Biotechnology and Life Sciences. The candidates will be selected through “Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET)”. Based on the performance in BET, two categories of merit list will be prepared (Category-I and Category-II). Government of India norms for reservation will be followed for selection. Candidates selected under category-I will be eligible to avail fellowship under the programme. These will be tenable at any University/Institute in India where the selected candidate registers for PhD Programme. Candidates selected under Category-II will be eligible to be appointed in any DBT sponsored project and avail fellowship from the project equivalent to NET/GATE, subject to selection through institutional selection process. There will be no binding on Principal Investigators of DBT sponsored projects to select JRF for their project from category-II list. Selection in category-II will not entitle student for any fellowship from DBT-JRF programme.

ELIGIBILITY

Qualification: M.Sc./ M.Tech./ M.V.Sc. or equivalent degree/ Integrated BS-MS/ B.E./ B.Tech. in any discipline of Biotechnology, M.Sc./ M.Tech. Bioinformatics/ Computational Biology, students admitted under DBT supported Postgraduate Teaching Programs. M.Sc. Life Science/ Bioscience/ Zoology/ Botany/ Microbiology/ Biochemistry/ Biophysics and Masters in Allied areas of Biology/Life Sciences. Candidates appearing in the final year examination are also eligible to apply.

Marks: Minimum 60% marks for General, EWS & OBC category and 55% for SC/ ST/ Differently abled in aggregate (or equivalent grade).

Age Limit: Upto 28 years as on the last date of application for General & EWS category. Age relaxation of up to 5 years (33 years) for SC/ ST/ Differently Abled/ women candidates and upto 3 years (31 years) for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates.
