	<description><![CDATA[<p>Commission&nbsp;for&nbsp;Biotechnology&nbsp;&amp;&nbsp;Genetic&nbsp;Engineering&nbsp;&shy;&nbsp;Khartoum: The&nbsp;Commission&nbsp;for&nbsp;Biotechnology&nbsp;and&nbsp;Genetic&nbsp;Engineering&nbsp;was&nbsp;established&nbsp;in&nbsp;9/2/1993&nbsp;as&nbsp; research&nbsp;unit.&nbsp;In&nbsp;addition&nbsp;to&nbsp;research&nbsp;activities&nbsp;it&nbsp;acts&nbsp;as&nbsp;focal&nbsp;point&nbsp;for&nbsp;the&nbsp;International&nbsp;Center&nbsp;for&nbsp; Biotechnology&nbsp;and&nbsp;Genetic&nbsp;Engineering. The&nbsp;commission&nbsp;conducts&nbsp;researches&nbsp;in&nbsp;order&nbsp;to&nbsp;play&nbsp;a&nbsp;part&nbsp;in&nbsp;solving&nbsp;economical,&nbsp;environmental,&nbsp; health&nbsp;and&nbsp;nutritional&nbsp;problems&nbsp;using&nbsp;modern&nbsp;research&nbsp;techniques&nbsp;with&nbsp;an&nbsp;emphasis&nbsp;on&nbsp;the&nbsp;applied&nbsp; researches&nbsp;in&nbsp;these&nbsp;areas. The&nbsp;laboratories&nbsp;were&nbsp;well&nbsp;furnished&nbsp;with&nbsp;the&nbsp;essential&nbsp;equipments&nbsp;and&nbsp;the&nbsp;catalyst&nbsp;infrastructure&nbsp;to&nbsp; facilitate&nbsp;emergence&nbsp;of&nbsp;a&nbsp;successful&nbsp;for&nbsp;research.&nbsp;The&nbsp;Commission&nbsp;equipped&nbsp;with&nbsp;a&nbsp;computer&nbsp;center&nbsp; and&nbsp;information&nbsp;to&nbsp;serve&nbsp;as&nbsp;informatics&nbsp;and&nbsp;Digital&nbsp;library.</p><p>Research&nbsp;Interest&nbsp;and&nbsp;Activities: 1. 	<title><![CDATA[Bioinformatics in Africa: Part7 - Tunisia]]></title>
	<description><![CDATA[<p>Institut Pasteur de Tunis (IPT):<br />The IPT is a research institution founded in 1883. IPT is under the supervision of the Ministry of &nbsp;Health and is part of the Universit&eacute; El Manar of Tunis (Ministry of high Education). The missions &nbsp;of the institute are: Public Health Laboratory activities (PHL), Research on infectious diseases, and &nbsp;R/D on vaccines. Research programs are mainly oriented towards local health problems such as &nbsp;leishmaniais, viral hepatitis, and scorpion venoms. The &nbsp; group &nbsp; of &nbsp; Bioinformatics &nbsp; and &nbsp; Modelling &nbsp; of &nbsp; the &nbsp; IPT &nbsp; is &nbsp; hosted &nbsp; by &nbsp; the &nbsp;Laboratoire &nbsp;d&rsquo;Immunopathologie Vaccinologie et G&eacute;n&eacute;tique Mol&eacute;culaire &nbsp;(LIVGM), and exists since the &nbsp;beginning of 2005. Its present research activities include: genome annotation, EST clustering and &nbsp;modelling of the host/parasite response to Leishmania infection. However, the analyses of non-model organisms, for which little previous sequence information is available, pose specific problems. This course addresses the specific strengths and weaknesses of alternative HTS technologies, the computational resources needed for HTS, and how to analyze non-model species using HTS. 	<description><![CDATA[<p>Python creator Guido van Rossum&rsquo;s proposal for static type-checking annotations is inching closer to reality, and the feature has taken on a new name: type hinting.</p><p><img src="http://sdtimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/0107.sdt-python-typehinting.png" alt="image" width="619" height="219" style="border: 0px; border: 0px;"></p><p>Back in August, van Rossum published a proposal on the Python mailing list recommending type-checking annotations as a valuable feature for the next version of Python to improve the performance of editors and IDEs, linter capabilities, standard notation, and refactoring. 	<title><![CDATA[A guide for complete R beginners :- Installing R packages]]></title>
	<description><![CDATA[<p>Part of the reason R has become so popular is the vast array of packages available at the <a href="http://cran.r-project.org/" target="_blank">cran</a> and <a href="http://www.bioconductor.org/" target="_blank">bioconductor</a> repositories. In the last few years, the number of packages has grown <a href="http://blog.revolutionanalytics.com/2010/09/what-can-other-languages-learn-from-r.html" target="_blank">exponentially</a>!</p><p>This is a short post giving steps on how to actually install R packages. Let&rsquo;s suppose you want to install the <a href="http://had.co.nz/ggplot2/" target="_blank">ggplot2</a> package. Well nothing could be easier. We just fire up an R shell and type:<br /><code><br />&gt; install.packages("ggplot2")</code></p><p>In theory the package should just install, however:</p><ul>
<li>if you are using Linux and don&rsquo;t have root access, this command won&rsquo;t work.</li>
<li>you will be asked to select your local mirror, i.e. which server should you use to download the package.</li>
</ul><h4>Installing packages without root access</h4><p>First, you need to designate a directory where you will store the downloaded packages. On my machine, I use the directory <code>/data/Rpackages/</code> After creating a package directory, to install a package we use the command:<br /><code><br />&gt; install.packages("ggplot2"</code><code>, lib="/data/Rpackages/")<br />&gt; library(ggplot2, lib.loc="/data/Rpackages/")<br /></code></p><p>It&rsquo;s a bit of a pain having to type <code>/data/Rpackages/</code> all the time. To avoid this burden,&nbsp; we create a file <code>.Renviron</code> in our home area, and add the line <code>R_LIBS=/data/Rpackages/</code> to it. This means that whenever you start R, the directory <code>/data/Rpackages/</code> is added to the list of places to look for R packages and so:</p><p><code>&gt; install.packages("ggplot2"</code><code>)<br />&gt; library(ggplot2)</code></p><p>just works!</p><h4>Setting the repository</h4><p>Every time you install a R package, you are asked which repository R should use. To set the repository and avoid having to specify this at every package install, simply:</p><ul>
<li>create a file <code>.Rprofile</code> in your home area.</li>
<li>Add the following piece of code to it:</li>

<p>Candidates desirous of doing a short-term training / final year dissertation project for MSc (Life Sciences/Bioinformatics/Biotechnology or any science discipline) at UIAR Biophysics and Bioinformatics department may please drop an email atanju@iiar.res.in along with their resume.</p>

<p>Selected candidates will be further intimated. There will be a fees charged for doing the project at UIAR. The projects will be experimental or computational or involve both.</p>

<p>The training scope will be in the following areas but not limited to:</p>

<p>Bioinformatics analysis, Docking and Virtual screening, Molecular Dynamics simulation, Cloning, expression and purification of proteins, Biophysical and Biochemical characterisation of proteins, Crystallization and Structural Studies.</p>
