Names of two taxa to be compared are entered in the search window and the results are presented on a set of self-explanatory tabs.

TimeTree 3.0 was released September 27, 2011 with new data from 1209 studies including 25342 time nodes. We will be adding more data in the future as it comes in from researchers.

TimeTree is jointly directed by Blair Hedges (Pennsylvania State University) and Sudhir Kumar (Arizona State University). This project has been supported, in part, by grants from the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, NASA Astrobiology Institute, and Science Foundation of Arizona.

If you own 23andMe (Mountain View, CA) personal genomic results, GeneGroove will create for you a unique melody intimately based on your 23andMe genome informations. The music in you.

After uploading your 23andMe raw data onto your iPhone via iTunes, GeneGroove will analyze your genome informations and generate a unique identifier key. This key, called the GeNumber, will embed the uniqueness of your genome data while keeping your privacy safe, and will be used by GeneGroove to generate your music melody.

The GeNumber doesn't contain anymore genomic information but it is based on your genome and it is unique, it is yours. It will be used in upcoming Portable Genomics applications to mix and remix music, manipulate sounds and share your art with your friends and family.

The new SARS-CoV-2 version, B.1.1.7, which was first seen in the third week of September in Kent and Greater London, has since spread to other locations in the UK. According to the COVID-19 Genomics UK Consortium (COG-UK Consortium) that analysed the genome data of the virus and identified the variant, the new variant has been spreading "rapidly" over the last four weeks and has now been detected in other locations in the UK, suggesting further spread of the variant in the region.

According to a preliminary report posted on December 19 by the COG-UK Consortium scientists, as of December 15, 1,623 variant genomes have been sequenced. In a December 21 tweet, COG-UK Consortium said that it added 2,963 more genome sequences of SARS-CoV-2, of which 942 (32%) belong to the new variant. The Consortium intends to sequence 20,000 more SARS-CoV-2 genomes in the next two weeks to further ascertain the spread of the variant.

There is no clear proof, at least not yet, that it does cause severe pandemic. But there is a justification for seriously taking the possibility. Another coronavirus lineage in South Africa has acquired one specific mutation that is also present in B.1.1.7. This variant is increasingly spreading across South Africa's coastal regions. And doctors have observed in preliminary research that individuals infected with this variant bear a higher viral load-a higher concentration of the virus in their upper respiratory tract. In many viral diseases, this is associated with more severe symptoms.

Compressive Genomics

The key to finding a solution is to notice that most genomicsequences differ by very little. It may well be that the number of complete genome sequences being stored is increasing rapidly, but the actual amount of new data is very small. In other words, a single DNA sequence isn't particularly compressible but a set of sequences shares so much in common that the redundancy can be used to store them in a much smaller storage space.

Live Webinar on Streamlining large scale NGS data analysis using the Strand NGS Pipeline Manager on 24 Feb 2016

Abstract: Strand NGS includes comprehensive workflows for DNA-Seq, RNA-Seq, Small RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, MeDIP-Seq, and Methyl-Seq analysis. Each workflow includes a quality assessment and filter section, followed by a workflow-specific analysis section. The pipeline functionality in Strand NGS allows users to execute a sequence of analysis steps with specific parameters - all without any manual intervention. This simplifies the analysis in large scale sequencing projects where every sample needs to be processed identically.

In this webinar we will discuss the pre-packaged pipelines present in Strand NGS. The packaged pipelines have well-chosen default parameters and are suitable for users analyzing data for the first time in the tool. We will also show how advanced users can customize pipelines and share them with other Strand NGS users. Finally, we will show a brief glimpse of an elaborate pipeline that aligns reads, filters poor-quality matches, computes coverage metrics, identifies variants, checks for sample cross-contamination, and emails quality reports - all from within Strand NGS.

Speaker: Dr. Vamsi Veeramachaneni, Vice President - Bioinformatics, Strand Life Sciences

Details: Session 1: 2:30 PM IST, Session 2 : 10:30 PM IST
Register here: http://www.strand-ngs.com/webinar_registration
