How can a bioinformatician contribute in neuroscience research?

I want to pursue my phd in neuroscience of mental disorder. plz can any one help me by discussing something important on this topic or provide some link that can help me in generating some ideas for writting my research proposal.

I am a bioinfo student and I am starting my studies after a gap of 5 years. I have not been in touch with bioinfo community at all in these 5 years and really need to revisit all the changes that has happened ever since. I am looking for books or links or blogs that has information on developments that took place in last 5 or 10 years in the field of Bioinformatics like names/links for the new softwares or new websites that came. Any other significant things to know before getting back to studies. I am starting my MS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology- Bioinformatics Track in January 2014 and would like to refresh my knowledge of the subject.

Bioinformatics seems a broad term, which is applicable in almost all biology related subject. I would like to know the name of all those areas.

I read about gwas. but I havent done analysis on GWAS please any body who know about it reply me.
